The Construction of Race
BA (Hons) Media & Cultural Studies
This series exposes the processes in which race and ‘otherness’ have been constructed in historical and contemporary practices. Employing a discursive and digital approach, it aims to challenge dominant modes of visual representation and illustrate that race is in fact only a construction.

All That is Solid
BA (Hons) Media & Cultural Studies and Journalism
We perform daily routines and rituals out of habit, unthinkingly. We take everyday life for granted, but it is fleeting, blurry, and hard to grasp. If we stop and stare, we only catch ghostly traces, strange shapes and distorted reflections.

Unseen Hours
BA (Hons) Media & Cultural Studies and Journalism
The 24-hour society is taking over. It is possible to eat, drink and travel at any time, but behind the scenes there’s an army of employees holding it all together. Despite being clad in fluorescent jackets or sat behind brightly lit counters, the night worker often goes unnoticed during the twilight hours.

Memento Mori
BA (Hons) Media & Cultural Studies
Through death can one transcend mortality? Is it better to burn out than to fade away? This collection of photos explores the connection between death and iconography. The appearance of the subjects will show that if you want to live forever, all you have to do is die.

In Depth
BA (Hons) Media & Cultural Studies
My work explores the experience of submergence and our relationship with this unique space. Light and sound behave in unexpected ways and we are set free from gravity. It is a celebration of movement and our natural capabilities.

Disruptive Behaviour
BA Hons Media & Cultural Studies and Criminology
The work was initially about the misuse of the city, but has progressed onto adults behaving like children to the extent that they ‘ruin’ otherwise scenic photographs or boring situations. Otherwise dull and repetitive scenarios start to seem more fun.

Alone in the Dark
BA (Hons) Media & Cultural Studies
To explore the issue of teenagers loitering in play parks at night I have used long exposures to bring the night into light. I have attempted to show a trace of these isolated teenagers and reveal how the abstract architecture of play parks attracts teens to come out and play.

The Abuse of Beauty
BA Hons Media & Cultural Studies
My project is a subtle study of how women are abused and abuse themselves, the photographs are loosely based around the Pre-Raphaelite movement. I have chosen to photograph them in an editorial fashion medium to create an updated 21st century take on the Pre- Raphaelite movement.

Untitled
BA Hons Media & Cultural Studies and English
My project focuses on our expectations of family photographs. The images place my family and strangers within the same setting and ask the
viewer to work out who my relations are. The bright wall backdrop acts as a neutral space.

100 Percent Natural
BA Hons Media & Cultural Studies and Philosophy
My photography project is an exploration of our relationship with nature in an era of climate change. Capitalist and consumerist practices have produced a distanced relationship with nature. My images attempt to show instead how we are positioned within nature, embodied and intertwined with it.

The Intrusive Gaze
BA Hons Media & Cultural Studies
The project investigates the concept of surveillance as a means of power and control. Generating an illicit gaze through the lens of a camera, giving one the opportunity to survey and monitor daily rituals within the city space. The photographs attempt to explore the voyeuristic relationship between the photographer and the subject.
